As one segment of the project Memory of the City, during the period September-December 2011 a set of workshops was held. The workshops dealt with memory on the past and history of the Slavija Square in Belgrade as one of the public spaces with strong collective identity and place of great importance for the past of Belgrade. The main aim of the workshops was to identify collective memory, narratives and cultural heritage as potential generators of the redefinition of the city’s identity and its urban development. Apart from this the workshops and site-specific installations are supposed to incite a more engaged and responsible relation of citizens towards safeguarding memory, heritage and socio-cultural values of the city/community they live in.
Participants in the workshops are students of the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade: Andrej Josifovski, David Brbaklić, Hristina Tošić, Ivan Đikanović, Marko Samardžić, Milica Macanović, Milica Pavlović, Milica Simić, Nikola Jovanović, Stefan Vasić and students of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade: Marko Pejčić, Milan Kulić, Nevena Vuksanović. Mentor of the workshops was Milorad Mladenović (associate professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade), while artist Dušica Dražić and art historians Slavica Radišić and Marijana Simu also participated in the workshops.
Workshops’ results represent students’ projects for the
site-specific installations on the topic of the Slavija Square as the place of collective memory and concept/drawing of the joint installation, which is a result of students’ work on the concept that would connect their individual projects and produce unique form of the final installation.
